Ratkovce sa nachádzajú v Podunajskej nížine na pravom brehu rieky Dudváh, na východnom okraji Trnavskej sprašovej tabule, v nadmorskej výške 157 m.n.m.

Celková výmera ratkovského chotára predstavuje 445 ha. Z toho 28 ha v intraviláne obce (zastavanom území obce) a 417 ha v extraviláne obce (mimo zastavaného územia obce).

Obec susedí na severe s Pečeňadmi, na východe s Červeníkom, na juhu so Žlkovcami a na západe sú to Jaslovce a Bohunice (dnes Jaslovské Bohunice).

Obec má pomerne dobré autobusové spojenie s krajským mestom Trnava a tiež s Piešťanmi a Hlohovcom ako okresnými mestami.

Niekoľko kilometrov od Ratkoviec leží mestečko Leopoldov, ktoré je významným železničným uzlom v Slovenskej republike – je to aj rýchliková zastávka, takže aj vlakové spojenie je z Ratkoviec v kombinácii s autobusom na dosah.

Na západe od Ratkoviec sa nachádza atómová elektráreň Jaslovské Bohunice, ktorej chladiace veže je dobre vidieť v širokom okolí.

Ratkovce nájdeme na mape 17°43′ východne od Greenwichu a 48°28′ severnej šírky.

Najvýznamnejším vodným tokom v katastrálnom území Ratkovce je Dudváh.
