Dejiny obce Krakovany sa začínajú osídlením už v dobe kamennej. Sídliská však vznikali až v mladšej dobe kamennej (nálezy z 1. storočia p.n.l. na území obce). Našli sa aj kniežacie hroby s tzv. strážovským pokladom, ktoré nám zanechalo germánske a keltské etnikum. Slovanské osídlenie pochádza zo 7. až 8. storočia n.l. Prvá písomná zmienka o obci je z roku 1113 z listiny Zoborského opátstva. Krakovany v dnešnej podobe vznikli 1.1.1944, keď k nim bola pričlenená obec Stráže.
Nechceme sa odvolávať len na našu bohatú históriu a staré kultúrne tradície. Toto má byť len východiskom pre naše novodobé dejiny a pre pochopenie súčasnosti.
